Werewere-Kokako – Entoloma hochstetteri

The Werewere-Kokako mushroom, also known as the ‘Blue Pinkgill’ is a rare fungus, named after the colour of the wattle of the Kokako bird and carries the Maori name Werewere-Kokako, symbolizing harmony with nature. Inspired by the vibrant hues of the Kokako’s wattlethis mushroom boasts a distinctive cap and mesmerizing blue hues. Explore the magic of the Werewere-Kokako, a testament to the beauty and wonder found in the natural world.

Pixie Cup Lichen – Cladonia asahinae

Like other lichens, it forms a symbiotic relationship between a fungus and a photosynthetic partner, either an alga or a cyanobacterium. This remarkable organism plays a crucial role in ecological processes, contributing to soil formation and providing habitat and food sources for various organisms in its environment.

Liberty Cap – Psilocybe semilanceata

Turkey Tail Mushroom – Trametes versicolor

A common polypore found all over the world that displays a variety of colours ranging from orange to brown to blue! This medicinal mushroom contains powerful antioxidants and is said to have cancer-fighting properties.

Porcini – Boletus edulis

Porcini mushrooms are part of the Boletaceae family characterized by the small pores on the spore-bearing hymenial surface appearing under the cap instead of gills. It is made up of a spongey material made up of tiny tubes where the spores are released. These mycorrhizal mushrooms can grow up to 30 cm in diameter and grow in a symbiotic relationship with pine, chestnut, hemlock, and spruce.
